This study builds a 50 MW “PV + energy storage” power generation system based on PVsyst software. A detailed design scheme of the system architecture and energy storage capacity is proposed, which is applied to the design and optimization of the electrochemical energy storage system of photovoltaic power station.
Developed and managed by Datang Hubei Energy Development, the 50MW/100MWh energy storage project can store 100,000 kWh of electricity on a single charge, supplying power to approximately 12,000 households for an entire day. In a bid to diversify from lithium, China has been exploring alternative energy storage technologies.
The results show that the 50 MW “PV + energy storage” system can achieve 24-h stable operation even when the sunshine changes significantly or the demand peaks, maintain the balance of power supply of the grid, and save a total of 1121310.388 tons of CO2 emissions during the life cycle of the system.
The electrochemical energy storage system uses lithium batteries with high cost performance, which can simultaneously play two key roles in balancing the energy input system and the adjustment of the system output power, and is a key link in the stable operation of the “photovoltaic + energy storage” power station (see Fig. 2). Fig. 1.
The energy storage battery pack has a voltage of 52 V, a total capacity of 20070Ah, a total storage capacity of 925 kWh, and a total storage capacity of 864 MWh in its life cycle.
The initial 50MW/100MWh phase of this ambitious 100MW/200MWh project in Hubei Province, China, has been successfully connected to the grid and commenced commercial operations. Notably, the commissioned project is also China’s first 100-MWh-scale energy storage power station utilizing sodium-ion batteries.
