This study provides an overview of PFASs usage in solar modules and reviews the literature to understand PFAS type and amount used in solar modules. Within the published literature, the information on PFAS for solar panels is limited and mainly includes PFAS usage as anti-reflective and self-cleaning coatings.

Notably, the estimated PFAS levels in PV modules are substantially lower than those found in many consumer products .
While some laboratory studies explore hydrophobic PFAS coatings, they appear absent from commercial solar modules. Most PFAS used in solar modules are fluoropolymers, considered a low-risk PFAS subgroup. Currently, no standardized methods exist for PFAS analysis in electronics.
