The Australian-Singapore group behind a proposed 20 GW solar PV farm and 42 GWh battery energy storage project being developed in Australia’s remote far north has hinted other, similar-sized projects are already in the pipeline.
Featuring an inverter capacity of 136 MVA and a storage capacity of 55 MW / 220 MWh, the project is now the largest DC-coupled solar-plus-storage installation in Australia and represents GPG’s first venture into hybrid energy solutions.
The installation is set to become the biggest solar farm on Australia’s main grid. From pv magazine Australia Renewable energy and storage developer Genex has named London-headquartered Arup as owners’ engineer for the 775 MW first stage of the Bulli Creek solar and battery storage project in southeastern Queensland.
It is closely followed by the 245MW Avonlie solar PV plant in New South Wales, comprising more than 450,000 solar panels. The company is also developing the Port Augusta Renewable Energy Park in South Australia. The site consists of 50 wind turbines and 250,000 solar modules, granting 217MW of wind and 110MW of solar PV generation.
